GV Research Fellow Professor
S W R de A Samarasinghe and GV Consultant former mayor of Kandy
and parliamentarian/minister Mr.
Harindra Dunuwille are writing a monograph on Sri Lanka’s
governance and politics. The research delves into some of the most
basic questions that this troubled South Asian country has had to
face in the past sixty years including the violent ethnic conflict
that lasted one generation and the failure to build a nation in
a country that held much promise at independence in 1948. The researchers
are reviewing the checkered history of its democracy and governance,
deficiencies in the rule of law and the lack of transparency and
accountability in some major areas of administration that have seriously
undermined governance in the country.
