Sujan Nanayakkara
Consultant
Mr. Sujan Nanayakkara is a graduate from the University of Peradeniya,
Sri Lanka. He has two Masters Degrees, an MA in Sociology and an
MBA. He has specialized in the fields of Small and Medium Industry,
Strategic Business Management, Productivity Management and Human
Resource Development.
He has more than 25 years working experience in the public sector,
holding different positions such as Assistant Director and Deputy
Director of Small Industries Development, Executive Director of
the Industrial Development Authority of the Central Province (IDACP),
Director-Industries and Senior Assistant Secretary. Currently he
has reached the top of the ladder in the Sri Lanka Administrative
Service (SLAS) and serves as a Ministry Additional Secretary.
His career is most notable for the 12 years of experience that
he has accumulated in the field of Industrial Development. When
he worked as the Executive Director of the Industrial Development
Authority in the Central Province he made several innovations to
encourage industrial entrepreneurs. He conducted an “Entrepreneurs
Award” competition as an incentive to investors. He also introduced
some critical programmes such as Technology Transfer, Dissemination
of Information, and Development of Infrastructure Facilities and
Entrepreneurship Development Training Programmes for the Development
of the Industrial Sector in the Central Province. For his outstanding
performance as the Executive Director of IDACP, he won the 3rd place
in a competition conducted by the International Labour Organisation
(ILO) for the Best Performing Partner Organisations that conducted
ILO sponsored SIYB Entrepreneurship Development Training Programmes
in Sri Lanka
He also worked as the trainer-consultant in Strategic Business
Management for the SIYB Association, an ILO funded project that
conducted training programmes called “Expand Your Business”
for Growth Oriented Entrepreneurs. In 2004 ILO recognized him as
the “Best Trainer Consultant in Sri Lanka” in the field
of Productivity and Quality Improvement. He is also one of the leading
consultant-trainers in the country in the fields of “5 Concepts”,
Human Resource Management, and Performance Management.
Mr. Nanayakkara has studied abroad and has received training in
his field is a large number of countries including Sweden, Japan,
India, Philippines, Israel, Thailand, Libya, Taiwan and Seychelles.
In Japan he followed a two-month long training programme on “National
& Regional Development Policy.”
At present he is working very closely with the ILO and the International
Organisation for Migration (IOM). He is a member of an IOM-appointed
panel of five professionals entrusted with the task of preparing
a “National Plan of Action” on labour migration from
Sri Lanka.
Mr. Nanayakkara has also published in professional journals on
subjects related to his area of expertise.
