Lalith Welamedage
Consultant
Dr. Lalith Welamedage (M.A, Ph.D) is a Post-doctoral researcher
at the Disaster and Development Centre in Northumbria University.
Prior to joining Northumbria University in 2008, Lalith has held
research posts at the Universities of Salford and Newcastle and
a range of management and business advice roles in Sri Lanka. He
has expertise in the areas of enterprise development, entrepreneurship,
technology and innovation, equality & diversity and labour market
analysis with particular experience in ethnic minorities and immigrants.
He brings with him a wide range of experience in applied research
and consultancy and has performed a number of consultancies for
international agencies (e.g. German Technical Cooperation, Konrad
Adenauer Foundation of Germany and the Commonwealth Secretariat).
He was also a visiting lecturer for the entrepreneurship development
programme at the University of the West Indies and MBA programme
at University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. His academic profile includes
an MA in Industrial Development from East Anglia and a PhD from
Newcastle looking at SMEs, Technology and Innovation Policies.
Lalith is an active member of the local community and voluntary
sector where he is a trustee of Black and Minority Ethnic Community
Network in the North East of England.
He has travelled to a number of countries on various assignments
including Barbados, Canada, Germany, India, Italy, Mongolia, the
Netherlands, Poland, Taiwan, Thailand, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Currently Lalith lives in Newcastle upon Tyne in UK with his wife
Milanthi.
